Wondering where you are headed. Re: pedals - are you thinking about getting clips/straps or clipless pedals? I have clipless and - once you get used to them - they are pretty easy to to get into/out of. Either way, definitely a necessity for the long rides. You'll be amazed at the difference. I'm taking my bikes tomorrow to get tuned up and then it's time to get on...after a 2 year hiatus! I know this isn't close to you (assuming you still live in Brookline), but I found Ace Wheelworks (http://wheelworks.com/) to be the most informative, economical and helpful staff at a bike store in Boston. As far as I know, International Bicycle Shop (or whatever it's called on Brighton Ave.) and Ski Market are among the most expensive. The Boston Bicycle Shop (near the Audubon bar on Beacon St.) is also pretty good.<br /><br />I'd recommend putting your light on strobe to conserve battery and because motorists are more likely to notice flashing than a solid light.
